Special designed structures for earthquakes and cyclones
Below a picture compliation of structures designed by our company which sustained earthquakes and/or cyclones.
EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE (*)
Designed to Richter 7.5 (was full scale tested in 2017 by a 6.9 earthquake). No damages | Designed to Richter 6.0 (was full scale tested in 2019 by a 5.2 earthquake). No damages | Roof design to withstand a Richter 6.5 earthquake. Not yet full scale tested |
CYCLONE RATED (*)
St. Maarten (hurricane 5) | Philippines (cyclone 5+) | Guadeloupe (hurricane 5) |
Typical cylcione rated roof design for large sized dwellings | S. Africa (hurricane 3) | Sta. Lucia (hurricane 4) |
(*) For specific areas where earthquakes and/or cyclones occur our designs include all parameters required for the calculation of the soil movements caused by earthquakes and the extremely high material stresses caused by wind, whereas the structure should survive these phenomena. However, these parameters are based on international codes developed by institutions which have decades been involved in the study of the physical behaviour of earthquakes and cyclones Unfortunately nature is unpredictable and despite the application of the parameters in our calculations no guarantee can be given that zero damages will occcur.
