As a freshly graduated engineer while working for an engineering company on the island of Curacao (Caribbean) our senior technical advisor designed a steel structure for a large supermarket for the island of St. Maarten. The structure had to be hurricane cat. 4 rated. The building survived a category 3 and a category 4 hurricane in the past and now also survived the devastating category 5+ hurricane “Irma” that struck the island early September 2017, leaving most of the buildings on the island beyond any repair. In addition a few houses, - also hurricane rated designed by us, - and built in 2008 survived the same hurricane.
We still use the vast experience and knowledge of our senior technical advisor and follow his design instructions for our wooden houses to be built in cyclone areas. We are lucky that he is part of our team.
