Ceramic tiles can be laid in any room, but you have to have the right underlayment or it will move and crack, or even come loose. A wood floor is generally the worst kind of surface on which to lay ceramic, because wood floors are designed to move. This problem is easily solved with the addition of backerboards, a hard material that cuts and attaches like drywall, and provides a solid, unmoving surface for the tile.

Installing ceramic tiles should be done carefully and certain precautions must be taken to ensure that the ceramic tile will bond correctly over the surface. Certain products and materials must be used to get a professional tile surface over the existing surface.
